Lost in Lace: Exhibition

An exhibition of original art works created by second year students from the University of Bedfordshire Art and Design course who have been inspired by the historical lace collection held at Wardown House, Museum and Gallery.

Lost in Lace is a collaborative student exhibition by The University of Bedfordshire supported by The Culture Trust.  Second year BA (hons) Art and Design and Creative Arts Practice students explored the physicality of lace, incorporating the material in their art and design projects. Many of the students could remember lace in a variety of forms from their childhoods, but no longer had a connection to the material. Approaching this craft technique from a naïve perspective the students explored how lace was made, and what it could become. How could this very traditional technique be incorporated into contemporary projects?  Through physical and digital manipulations of materials and imagery, the collaborative projects blend historical research within the mediums of printmaking, textiles, painting, photography and sculpture.
