The Trees - Call for Volunteers

We are looking for help in putting together a public art sculpture during April this year in Luton.

100 people volunteered to crochet lace panels for the large scale public light art project to be installed this year at Stockwood Discovery Centre, and now we need your help in sewing the lace pieces together.

The sculpture, “The Trees” has been commissioned by The Culture Trust Luton, funded by Arts Council England and supported by Museum Makers.  The project consists of two 3m tall x 5m wide hand crocheted lace trees. Details of this project can be seen here: www.culturetrust.com/lace-trees

Choi & Shine Architects bring their first new work in the UK, following  their  previous projects “The Lace” in Amsterdam, “The Flying Mosque” in UAE, Arizona and Heron in the US and “The Urchins” in Singapore and Australia. These projects were seen by 1,500,000 visitors with many more viewings from online visitors and publications.

You don’t need to have crochet skills to take part - just some basic sewing skills using an ordinary needle! It will be  a sociable and fun, yet meaningful event which signifies the importance of community involvement and the process of making art. The artist will be working with the volunteers every day.
