A Carnival Masterclass with Carl Gabriel

Trinidadian Carnival artist Carl Gabriel has achieved international renown for his large-scale sculptures, lovingly handcrafted through the art of traditional wire bending.

Carl's work can be seen in museums such as the V&A and Science as well as around the world in countries like Germany, India and the USA. With his most recent piece, a bust of the late Queen, featuring in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Parade in 2022. He is a trained engineer and was always comfortable manipulating material and that is what has led to him now being known as the 'Wire man'.

Carl has long ties with Luton based UK Centre for Carnival Arts (UKCCA), with one of his iconic pieces on permanent display at their centre on St Mary’s Road.

Join Carl for a masterclass exploring work from his 50 year career and learn the traditional techniques of wire bending and papier-mâché.
